THE BRIDGES OF PASADENA
Pasadena's bridges do not simply span what lies beneath them — they converse with it. In this series of black and white photographs, the arching stone of Colorado Street Bridge, the pillars of La Loma and Holly Street, and the great overpass columns above the Lower Arroyo Seco all find their counterparts in the living world around them. Branches mirror curves. Trunks echo pillars. The sweep of a canopy answers the arc of an arch. Whether nature is imitating structure, or structure is reaching back toward nature, is a question these images leave deliberately open. What remains certain, in every frame, is the balance between the two.
